i like this picture from our walk around SF even though my head is chopped off.

Great do-nothing kind of weekend excluding the lovely dinner at the Ritzman's with Behan + family as well.

linda and i worked in the yard. I massacred a buttload of juniper that covers our front hill. I am gradually replacing with bamboo (which is showing many new shoots!) and grasses + some conifers. I like the direction it is moving in...and if my dream of digging out a new door for the front of the house happens we will have a beautiful walk up to it. Bamboo shivering in the wind.

We managed to drag ourselves out of the house for PROMiscuity, a party put on by some burners. Good times, though I seem to peter out after a couple of hours. Undersea theme = we dressed in our squid outfits.

Duck Dodge.

Nate and I crewed for Ryan on his new sailboat, Watermark, last night. I was a little relieved there wasn't tons of wind as this is our first time sailing together and Ryan's first time skippering. We did fairly well and had a blast. The Duck Dodge on Lake Union is very low key and way informal after the Wednesday evening races that I am used to out on the Sound. Watermark is light and cuts through the water nicely. In the light air we were able to pull ahead of boats ahead of and surrounding us. Good times.

Linda and I just had the most amazing weekend in San Francisco for Karen and Devan's nuptials. Tucked away in Stern Grove we celebrated under the massive trees and in the arms of wonderful friends. Oh my god, it is good to hang out with these people.

Because of this:

"The sky was lit up with a bright yellow light — the earth appeared white. The yellow gradually became darker, turning gradually to orange. In the sky I saw white clouds from above the gadget caused by the sudden expansion following the blast wave — the expansion cools the air and fog clouds form — we had expected this. The orange got deeper, but where the gadget was, it was still bright, a bright orange, flaming ball-like mass."

And this:

" judge from your letter that in Venezuela you are teased badly if you are a professor and say you don't know or are not sure. I am glad that I am not so teased because I am sure of nothing, and find myself having to say "I don't know" very often. After all, I was born not knowing and have only had a little time to change that here and there. It is fun to find things you thought you knew, and then to discover you didn't really understand it after all."

Letters from Richard Feynman. It is definitely worth taking a little time to read this article.

Feynman inspires me with his bongo playing.

fridays.

i have the next 24 fridays off. so for now, thursdays are fridays, and mondays are both mondays and tuesdays at the same time.

The Good Girl Puppy Union #3848 applauds this recent career move. There will be much rejoicing with both kibbles and bits. I must admit that I am rather pleased as well. I really think it will help with managing Crohn's + keep me a happy and engaged camper at work. ... and ummm... speaking of camper... this means the summer can be filled with Friday surf trips to Westport.

Goes to show the good that can come out of a rock and a hard place if you play it right. My devious dad would have been proud of me.

Eagles

Linda and I were standing in our living room. I was speaking to Nate on the phone. Suddenly there was a flurry of bird as two bald eagles flew right past our window being chased by crows. They circled back around the swooped near our windows again. I was afraid that one of them was going to smash into the window. They didn't and circled out to the west and towards Schmitz park where they probably live.

I love West Seattle.
