update
Linda and I went down to Portland this weeknd to celebrate Passover with Jeff and Judy Margolis, Amy's folks. It is always a pleasure to get to spend time with Amy and David. They have created a warm home and life together and it is nice to get to be in the presence of it.
Passover was great. Jeff Margolis led an engaging ceremony with lots of back and forth on intrepretations. The crowd was eloquent and thoughtful. It was nice to get back to roots.
of course our trip down there was over to quickly. Passover, long early morning walk to hawthorne for me, then breakfast with amy and david, trip to powells, and then the lovely i5 corridor home.
Got mail from my dear friend, Jim, this morning. We met in '94 in a small travellers hotel in Guatemala, ran into eachother later on Roatan in Honduras and have kept in contact since. Jim was a railway worker from Arbroath, Scotland by way of London, who gave up the desk job to travel. He had a son in India with a woman from Canada and now Jim and Kesava have made a home with another woman that he met travelling + her 3 children. Jim is one of my favorite people to spend time with. He is deep and loving. He sent me this quote:
"remember always that you are just a visitor here, a traveller passing through. your stay is but short and the moment of you departure unknown.none can live without toil and a craft that provides your needs is a blessing indeed.but if you toil without rest, fatigue and weariness will overtake you and you will be denied the joy that comes from labours end.speak quietly and kindly and be not forward with either opinions or advice. if you talk much, this will make you deaf to what others say and you should know that there are few so wise that they cannot learn from others.be near when help is needed but be far when praise and thanks are being offered.take small account of might, wealth and fame for they soon pass and are forgotten. instead nurture love within you and strive to be a friend to all. truely compassion is a balm for many wounds.treasure silence when you find it and while being mindful of you duties, set time aside to be alone with yourself. cast off pretence and self deception and see yourself as you really are.despite all appearances, no-one is really evil.they are led astray by ignorance.if you ponder this truth always, you will offer more light rather than blame or condemnation. you, no less than all beings, have the nature of love within you.your essential mind is pure. therefore, when defilements cause you to stumble and fall, let not remorse nor dark fore-boading cast you down. be of good cheer and with this understanding, summon strength and walk on.faith is like a lamp and wisdom it is that makes the flames burn bright.carry this lamp always and in good time the darkness will yield and you will abide in light."

at 35
At age 35:
Based on a nightmarish dream, Robert Louis Stevenson wrote The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
Russian ambassador Aleksandr Borosovich Kurakin introduced the practice of serving meals in courses.
Frederic William Herschel, an English astronomer, invented the contact lens.
American sprinter Evelyn Ashford won her final Olympic gold medal at age 35, old for a sprinter.
Amedeo Avogadro developed Avogadro's hypothesis.
Law School professor Anita Hill charged that Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas made indecent remarks to her.
Margie Profet proposed a new theory of menstruation which claims that menstruation protects against infection and won a MacArthur Foundation "genius" grant.
Astronaut Buzz Aldrin achieved his life's ambition at age 35 and wondered, what do you do after that?
Mozart stopped composing and started, well, you know.

Weekend. Babies and sailing.
Spent a wonderful Saturday with Tom and Amy celebrating the upcoming arrival of a little one. Played Kick the baby, drank a little too much, had a great time hanging out in the Grieshaber back yard with old friends. Sunday I met Russ and Ryan down at O Dock....O for "oh no someone broke up with me on the phone" and took Watermark out for a test sail. Ryan chose a lovely boat and we had a blast sailing towards elliott bay for amazing views of the city. mmmmm. Great way to spend a Sunday. I am looking forward to cruises with Ryan and our other friends that are turning into boat people.

ditch dug
this weekend Nate and I dug a big ol' ditch from the house out to the garage and George, the electrician, came out and spent saturday wiring 220 power or the future home of Boxer Studios. Nate will be bringing up metal working equipment in the next couple weeks and we still have quite a bit of wiring and additional work to get it to where it needs to be. I am psyched to have some new working space.

RIP-JPII
PS. As a lapsed catholic I offer you condolences for the passing of the Pope. Whatever the world thought of him, he was a man of his convictions, and provided a good head for church. I find myself kind of sad that he is gone despite the fact that the church has always been a pain in my hind.
Eternal rest grant unto him, Oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.

eternal rest
yo,
been thinking about teh dying since it is all the rage this week. america finally got it's sense together enough to let the christian right's poster child go to her final peace. i would say that it was cruel and unusual torture except that ms. schiavo was not aware of anything, her brain looking kind of schriveled like dried paint sticking to the side of the can.
oh yeah and the pope. he is on his way out. and another young performer, mitch hedburg... and damn next thing you know Abe Vigoda is pushing up daisies.
and it is fast approaching Dead Dad Day, which occurs without fail, like taxes. in fact they both happen on the mf 15th. Always puts me in a cheery mood for my birthday on the 21st.
On a much less depressing note i would like you all to send me good vibes at 10 this morning. more on this later.
