just back from an unreal sail with russ, caleb and amanda. caleb is denis and kate's next door neighbor from baltimore and he is out visiting for a short spell and amanda is the friend he is visiting. good folk. in his week here he managed to hit all major sites + camping and an eve on indian summer. although the weather was typical seattle (actually a relief after the hot stuff we've been having lately) we decided to go over to Port Madison. We were powering with the sails up when we spotted some porpoise who started to play around and with Indian Summer... following and swimming back and forth behind us. it was so cool. we see lots of dahl porpoise around here but usually they keep their distance. maybe it had something to do with us being the only boat on the water. magic fish.

anyway, we watched porpoise for a while till they disappeared behind us. we made our way to pt. madison, ate a nectarine crisp and warmed up with some coffee and then had a great sail home. We hit 6.2 knots and were heeled over most of the way back. it was an incredible sail.

went out for a beer afterwards with C&A and met heidi, greg and olivia. greg also grew up in africa (nairobi, kenya) and he busted out some kiswahili on me. my dumb stare evidence of forgotten greetings. we later spoke in french lubricated by the beer. i continue to be amazed that i can still understand as much as i do... and make myself understood... for that matter.

i gotta go to bed. nighty night.

mom is in greece visiting the sakelaris family. i am jealous.

i need a job. it's like that. I am stepping up the search as well as volunteering at a couple places to get some exposure (Aquarium and Center for Wooden Boats). I am a little worried that work will take me away from sailing... but that is 7 months of unemployment talking.

went down to shilshole yesterday and scrubbed down the dodger on Indian Summer. then scrubbed the deck. got all wet in 90 degree weather. this heat is killing me. had dinner with Russ and Barb (crabcakes-yummm) and then went down to r-dock for a wed night race on Quorum. Lovely night with strong breezes (9-10 knots). Worked the foredeck and had a great time of it. bruised knees and bloodied fingers. time for kneepads and gloves.

Amy & David came to visit this weekend. We went sailing and showed off Seattle. Linda and I fixed a big falafel dinner w/ hummous, tabouli and tzatziki and olives. I ate too much. Nice winds on the way to Pt. Madison and back.

B-fast this morning at Luna Park. Great pancakes on the patio. Definitely going back.
